Oil on linen. 12x12. I like the crescent arrangement of the light flowers in this bouquet. Painted from life.
The goal in these studies is to practice seeing form and color, and to use brushwork expressively in a traditional representational practice of painting. Studying flowers intently for painting is a joy and a challenge. As time passes, more and more nuances of color and light may be seen. In the end the qualities of softness, lightness, transparency and elegant form can only be approximated with paint. Flowers are living subjects which I prefer to painting from photographs as the human eye can see much more subtlety and detail.
